With a broad portfolio of pharmaceutical products, each operating as its own brand, Grifols have a wide-reaching and sophisticated design system that acts as their source of truth across many platforms and websites.
Grifols approached us to collaborate with their design and development teams to refine and evolve their existing Sketch-based design system. Many of the challenges they faced stemmed from outdated software, and the restrictions in scalability and collaboration it posed.
The goal was to create a state-of-the-art design system that could be used fluidly across multiple brands and by various teams (both internally and externally), ensuring consistency and efficiency in their design and development output.

Through rigorous research and planning, the opportunity in transitioning the design system to Figma was undertaken over a ~6 month period of intense design collaboration.
The design work involved a simple proof of concept stage, followed by a full build of all tokens, elements, components, and templates across mobile, tablet and desktop contexts. The token setup allows for defining and switching between different brand representations, as well as connected working files to the central library file.
Interaction prototyping, testing and comprehensive documentation accompanied the system to ensure effective adoption across the organisation.
